'Tis the Holiday Season for Social Media Managers!

As we know, holidays can be a HUGE DEAL on social media, so here are a few tips on how to get your company prepared for the holidays, so you can spend less time stressing about social media posts and more time with the family!

1. Create a Holiday Calendar: A MUST HAVE!

A holiday calendar is every Social Media Manager’s biggest weapon and must-have for every company. Having all of your holidays laid out ensures that you will never miss a big day, and allows you to plan ahead so you can work with your team to generate the most creative post possible. Plus, it’s a holiday, so schedule these posts ahead of time--- you deserve the day off!

The most important thing to keep in mind when creating a Holiday Calendar is which holidays, both national and alternative, would be best suited for your audience. For example, the Jewish Women’s Theatre probably won’t be posting about Easter on their Facebook page, and a clothing brand might not be posting about national apple pie day (unless they really love pie). Know your audience and always stay true to their interests.

2. Stock Photos

Let’s face it, sometimes the office is just too hectic to get everyone together to formulate a thoughtful, creative holiday post. For this reason, it’s important to turn to your resources-- stock photos!

Generic stock photos that read “Happy Holidays”, “Happy Thanksgiving” or “Happy Veterans Day” are never ideal, but they get the job done. Every national holiday is important to acknowledge. Never go silent on a big holiday unless it is considered controversial to your audience. Stock photos are a lifesaver when holiday chaos leaves you no time for a more inventive post.

Here’s a few stock photo websites to tack onto your list of resources-- they will come in handy!

3. Photoshoot

This is the easiest and best way to tackle upcoming holiday posts! With your holiday calendar already laid out with all the celebrations you absolutely MUST post for, use this list to prepare for a photoshoot. We all know everyone around the office has busy schedules, and it can be hard to get everyone together for a holiday photo each and every holiday. The best way to conquer the problem is to schedule a photoshoot in advance, and prepare to take photos for the major holidays all at once so you can be sure to include the whole office!

Here’s an example from our wonderful models over at Hyatt Regency Huntington Beach Resort & Spa, who prepared for Halloween much in advance! How cute are these little minions?

Fun, thoughtful posts like these can be a real big social media win because they share a little bit of personality with your audience. This can be a big stepping stone in getting your consumers familiar with you and get them interacting with your brand.
