To Boomerang, Or Not To Boomerang

Following Hyperlapse and Layout, we now have Boomerang. Instagram has launched a new app, which allows users to create and share whimsical mini-videos. Boomerang takes a burst of several photos then stitches them together into a one-second video. The video plays the images forward and backward on repeat, hence the "Boomerang" name.

Instagram is describing the app as a way to “turn everyday moments into something fun and unexpected.” It’s this element that Instagram hopes will spark people’s creativity.

Other than creating incredibly fun mini-videos, here are a few reasons why we’re enjoying Boomerang:

Can you hear me now?

Today, it's becoming harder than ever to capture someone’s attention. If videos are longer than one or two minutes, the chances of your audience watching it all the way through are slim. Clips created through Boomerang can be vital for engaging your potential customers. By offering short one-second clips, you are offering content that is much easier to digest than text.

Tell your brand without selling it

Visual marketing is one of the most successful means of marketing. Instagram is not only a visual platform, but it allows you to create powerful visual content. Instagram-style images create higher engagement, more click-throughs, and better conversions than traditional marketing (studio based) images. Brand marketing can be tricky, as younger demographic users tend to be sensitive to over-promotion.  Avoid potentially irritating these users by identifying ways to share key components of your brand’s image without resorting to outright sales tactics. Your Instagram account should tell a visual story of your business. It should reflect who you are, what you do, and what you have to say.

You’re not a rocket scientist (unless you are)

Simply press the button in Boomerang and the app does the rest. It takes a burst of photos, stitches them together, and voilà! You have a fun and interesting mini-video you can share directly to Facebook or Instagram.

Since the Boomerang app does not require an Instagram account, users can share their creations as they please, making it a great go-to option for capturing ordinary moments, and turning them into something a little more extraordinary.
